A Ukulele Straight from History
The Kala Pan Pacific Deluxe ukulele offers you the chance to experience an award-winning design straight out of the instrument’s centuries-old history. This deluxe model draws on the ukulele’s earliest roots in Madeira, Portugal, and owes its unique looks and playability to luthier Jonah Kumalae’s entry at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exhibition in San Francisco. With its stunning Hawaiian koa body, historic figure-8 soprano body style, and detailed visual accents, Sweetwater ukulele players and collectors alike found more than enough reasons to enjoy the Pan Pacific Deluxe. Beautiful to look at and wonderful to play, the Kala Pan Pacific Deluxe ukulele is sure to be the new star of your collection.
Rich sound, stunning aesthetics, inspired design
The one-of-a-kind Pan Pacific Deluxe ukulele celebrates the spot where Hawaii’s gift to the mainland first garnered attention and the luthiers who made it possible. For this inspired design, Kala sourced Hawaiian koa directly from its private stock for an all-solid build that’s tonally rich and beautifully patterned. Using the soprano size as a base, the figure-8 body is the centerpiece of the design, featuring a steeper contour that shapes resonance and enhances the overall feel. Additionally, the okoume neck and ebony fretboard are mounted flush with the soundboard to increase fret access.
Visual accents complement the historic design, including a rope-style maple/rosewood rosette and body binding and a wrist-wrestling headstock crest that pays homage to Kala’s founding in Petaluma, California, the wrist-wrestling capital of the world. All in all, the Pan Pacific Deluxe ukulele offers an attention to detail and rich historical inspiration that few designs can match, creating an instrument that’s as much a talking piece as a performance tool.
